Overnight Advocate – usually one 14-24 hour shift a week, most people can fit this in with a regular day job; weekday shift starts at 5:30 pm and ends 8:00 am next day, with sleep time ( 11:00 pm – 7 am) in between.

Night Advocate is responsible for the following (but not limited to):

Advocacy services to shelter clients including, but not limited to, completing intake and departure forms, providing supportive listening. The Night Advocate provides VIP crisis line support for both Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Victims; performs some cleaning duties.

 

Other Areas of Responsibility:

  1. Attend and participate in mandatory training sessions and VIP meetings.

  2. Complies with mandatory client confidentiality and report criteria as defined by law and VIP policies and procedures as applicable.

  3. Keep Director informed of job related problems and other information relative to assigned job duties.

  4. Contributes to a positive work attitude within VIP by working cooperatively with others and conducting oneself as a team player.

  5. Performs related work as apparent or assigned.

 

Qualifications 

  • Belief in non-violence

  • Willingness to challenge societal norms that condone perpetual violence;

  • Exceptional interpersonal, active listening and individual counseling skills;

  • Ability to be an effective advocate for and support to victims of domestic violence

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with victims, staff, system providers, and others in the community

  •  Ability to pass a criminal background check

Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Advocate

Position Summary: Provides advocacy services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault; works as a part of the VIP team to sustain a successful agency that provides ongoing services to battered persons and works to educate the community and facilitate needed systems change.

 

Areas of Responsibility:

  • Provide supportive listening, making referrals, goal setting and appropriate follow-up.

  • Strive to know ALL available resources for clients whose needs are varied and extensive; such as social services, housing, medical, clothing, food, employment, etc.

  • Work in a successful professional relationship with the ‘network of communuity agencies’ able to assist VIP’s clients.

  • Attend required court hearings and assist client with legal advocacy – preparing and filing orders with Court system and follow-through with clients.

  • Facilitate shelter placement if needed – intake paperwork, coordinate with shelter advocate or work with other shelter placement.

  • Attend and participate in staff meetings, group training sessions, self-directed trainings, regional and state meetings; attend meetings on behalf of VIP as assigned by Director.

  • Fulfill on-call duties.

  • Assist in maintaining building security; maintenance of office space.

 

Other Areas of Responsibility:

  • Complies with mandatory client confidentiality and report criteria as defined by law and VIP policies and procedures as applicable.

  • Effectively communicate with VIP Executive Director on matters related to this position, clients served, team process and other information relative to assigned job duties.

  • Travel Requirements – attend client meetings, court, regional and state meetings and other meetings to be determined.

  • Contributes to a positive work atmosphere by conducting oneself in a manner that fosters good relations with clients, co-workers, supervisor and community contacts such as other service providers and donors.

Education and Experience (VIP will provide training and education for the right candidate)

 

Required: 

    • Belief in non-violence, and willingness to challenge societal norms that condone perpetual violence.

    • Exceptional interpersonal, active listening and individual counseling skills.

    • Ability to be an effective advocate for and support to victims of domestic violence.

    • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with victims, staff, system providers, and others in the community.

    • Having own transportation and valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance.

    • Ability to pass a criminal background check.

    • Ability to work on an on-call schedule.

    • Must be able to independently handle diverse work issues on a daily basis.  Requires the ability to set priorities and work schedule; also adjust to changes created by last minute assignments and deadline requests.

 

Preferred:

  • Two years post-high school education in criminal justice, social services or related area.

  • Two years work experience as an advocate for victims of domestic violence and/or sexual assault or related work.

 

This position requires sitting, standing, bending, lifting, stooping and reaching with sufficient manual dexterity to operate standard office equipment; conduct room searches; assist with donation drop-offs and similar activities.

Housing Case Manager/Advocate

Position Summary: The Case manager will provide advocacy services and comprehensive coordination of services to victims of domestic and sexual violence that are homeless and at risk of becoming homeless.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop a good working knowledge of agency mission, vision and philosophy.

  • Talk with clients and collect data to determine program eligibility based on application and documentation. Maintain follow up contact when necessary with participants through telephone, mail and personal visits.

  • Work with families to identify barriers to success of family development. Use self-sufficiency and possible solutions and action plans to overcome such barriers.

  • Provide direct victim services to clients in crisis situations – both on-site and off-site including supportive listening, making referrals, goal setting and appropriate follow-up.

  • Adhere to agency policies, rules and regulations. Coordinate program activities with partnering agencies.

  • Must maintain client confidentiality and abide by the Data Privacy Act

  • Demonstrate teamwork by cooperating with and assisting co-workers as needed.

  • Attend required meetings, training, seminars, and conferences as needed/required to enhance expertise and professionalism in agency activities as scheduled by the Director and/or funding source, outside agencies, etc. to fulfill job/project(s) requirements.

  • Must be responsible and able to handle confidential material and information, organize effectively, and work independently.

  • Research and keep up-to-date on program and community resources.

  • Match community resources to family/individual needs, refer families to community resources, follow-up on the effectiveness of referrals and identify any unmet needs.

  • Promote community partnerships that will improve support to families/individuals in our service area. Maintain professional boundaries at all times.

  • Provide public information and education through outreach activities. Perform all other duties as assigned by Supervisor and/or Director.

 
Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 2 or more year’ experience in a related field

  • BA or BS degree in social work/human service degree or related field encouraged.

  • Working knowledge of modern office communication systems:  e-mail, voicemail, computer systems, and ability to operate various office equipment such as fax, copy machine and calculator.
